Every year on December 7th, we
remember the day which President Roosevelt called in 1941 "the day
that will live in infamy." Each year, we remember the event
which jumpstarted our young nation and brought every American together to
fight a foreign invader. On that date, the Japanese Army attacked
the Naval Base in Hawaii, almost practically crippling or sinking every
ship that was in dock. Only because of sheer luck, three of our
carriers were out of dock, and due to the overwhelming effort of the
American people to build new ships and military equipment and send our men
over to fight for our country were we able to overcome the Axis countries
of Japan, Germany and Italy. This holiday is celebrated as much for the devastation
it caused us as for the great strength our citizens showed to overcome
insurmountable obstacles when working together. |
