SOME FACTS AND HISTORY ABOUT HALLOWEEN

The ancient Celtics observed a holiday called Samhain, which was a day that spirits were able to enter the living world.  These early traditions carried on for many years in various forms and extended to southern Europe. When Christianity came about, the Church wanted to stop the pagan rituals associated with the holiday.  They named November 1st, All Saints Day where a mass was to be performed and the night beforehand was to be known as Allhallowmass, which eventually evolved into Halloween (misp. Holloween). [Click here for more detailed information]

This is not traditionally a gift exchanging holiday.  However, if purchasing a gift, maintain the Halloween theme.  If you believe in scary things or not, have fun with it.

A scary Little Gift: Give your friends and family a little gift to say hi.  Purchase some candy in the shape of a ghost or spider and leave it where they can find it with a little note or greeting card.  You can find other creepy crawly type gifts from our affiliates or our online warehouse below.

For the Kids: Well, you need to outfit them in the newest costumes and keep up with the latest trends.  However, you can always bet on popular movies of the year producing most of the more popular costumes.  Sometimes these costumes can become very costly - three ways to save money are to:

  1. Purchase your costumes the week after Halloween for the following year

  2. Purchase from an online discount store, or

  3. Do it the old fashioned way and make a costume at home.

Travel: If you want to do something fun and historical, visit Salem, Massachusetts on or around this holiday. I would also suggest taking a "ghost tour" through the town on Halloween evening.
